In his article “The Future of Science. . . Is Art?”, Jonah Lehrer argues the fact that art is necessary in order to comprehend any scientific process. Lehrer’s thoughts are very interesting as he pursues the connections between art and science. He does this by providing many examples given by both scientists and artists alike. And to this, I agree. Art helps conceptualize anything that words fail to describe. It helps bridge a gap to further understanding. Lehrer states, “The one reality science cannot reduce is the only reality we will ever know.” We may never learn all the secrets of science, but art can help explain what we do know.

Synapse: a junction between two nerve cells, also consisting of a gap which impulses cross

Reductionism: the practice of analyzing and describing a complex phenomenon in terms of phenomena that are held to represent a simpler or more fundamental level, especially when this is said to provide a sufficient explanation

Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle: the position and the velocity of an object cannot both be measured exactly, at the same time
